Uncontrolled Chaos
We have Behavior analysts (teachers) at our house working with Greyson beginning every day at 8am. The guards change every few hours to keep both parties from getting burned out. Once a day we work on putting his shirt on three times in a row. Oh friend, he works so hard...he doesn't get frustrated when he can't figure it out- he just keeps trying. It's so hard to refrain from jumping in to rescue him when it looks like it's going in the wrong direction...but so often he self-corrects after a few attempts...
He makes me so proud.
SUCCESS. He did so good, he got two pieces of chocolate. He would look from left to right...unsure of which one to eat first.
And then after that... 2 more times...
After Grey finishes with each of his teachers throughout the day, he comes downstairs to greet me...Today we got a 20 minute break before we needed to leave for speech. I was upstairs changing Parker's diaper when I heard front door open. I immediately thought it odd -because his teacher usually yells goodbye... {and doesn't leave the front door wide open.}
Panic hit when I realized that Greyson had actually left the building... I forgot that over the break last week he learned to unlock the front door.
I ran downstairs and headed out the front door. Grey was in the street and Jack the Dog was on the loose. I uncalmly lead Greyson inside yelling, NO OUTSIDE WITHOUT ASKING MOM!!!
Greyson sat on the front entry way in tears and I sat the just awakened Parker on the ground next to him who also burst out crying... and I ran outside to round up Jack.
Jack, my calm, sweet, always tired dog was a wild child. He ran free like a bucking bull every time I got near. I swear he was even smiling. I tried to lure him with sweet words, then with treats...and eventually I started to loose it...yelling out Fairy Princesses {curse words} in a deep and evil voice.
JACK! When I get a hold of you- you will be SORRY! Get your fairy princess butt over here NOW.
And up and down... and up and down our street the three of us ran... Ted, the knot in my muscle, Jack the Dog (giddy with delight) ..and me...sweating in the 100 plus degree weather and so angry I was spitting... Miffed that Jack the Dog was going to make us late for speech. Screaming, Get over here Jack with my fist raised like a bad Mary Tyler Moore episode the whole time.
Finally I decided that one dog would have to be enough for our family...Belle the Dog would have to do...and I was going to leave for speech without Jack safely in the house -something I've never dreamed about doing in his entire life. I went inside, gathered up my crying babies, packed the car and opened the garage door-- ready to head out... And there on the driveway was Jack, excited to go for a ride in our car, tail wagging. Sheesh.
We even had enough time for me to stop at Starbucks. I was pretty sure that when the drive through gal said, How has your day been so far? that I would just start to cry in my coffee... I kind hoped she would just lean out and give me a hug to be honest.
Luckily we made it to speech just in time.
Today we got an awesome package in the mail... How does Native Shoes always know to deliver happiness on a Monday? I don't even have to write a review on them.
They gave us way more than we asked for...blew me away...
When he saw me in these shoes, my stock went up 40 points in his eyes...and split... He thought it was funny...Mom-sized Greyson shoes... He would touch them...put them on his own feet...try to figure out what the heck was going on...
And tonight... I went to an awesome woman responsible for beating the Fairy Princess out of Ted.
I thought scalenes were something you put on top of potato skins...Apparently they are actually a group of muscles in the neck...
And they were the fugitive home of Ted the knot. This massage was intense and horrible and painful and absolutely fantastic. I saw Mars and stars and maybe even Baby Jesus and almost threw up. And I'm in too much pain from the beat down to tell you if Ted or my headache is gone...but I have hope...and Hope always gets me through tough times. ...

DeleteSometimes when I'm gone for work I worry about how you are doing... I worry about Greyson, and I worry about Parker. I feel like I'm going to miss something, a milestone, a word, a sentance... When I'm not there I know that I can tune into the blog to see how things are going, and feel like I'm still there. Your words bring smiles to my face and at times tears to my eyes. Tears of joy and occasionally tears of sadness. I can't say it enough, thank you for the long hours and effort that you put in working with Grey, caring for Parker at the same time, and taking care of our home. Thank you. For everything, even stuff that I didn't mention. And thanks for writing this amazing story of our family. I love you.

ReplyDeleteThis Saturday is the sidewalk sale in Fig Garden Village. The Jammie's are playing a concert in the parking lot so there should be a large crowd of parents. I was thinking I'd have someone walk around during the concert and hand out grey's stickers. Any chance you might have time to bring in another stack? I'd also like to add them to the bags that day so if you could bring a large stack we would be super excited.
Hugs,
Abbie
