what do you stand for?

Who am I?

I can answer that question in an instant...

I can totally do nouns...  I'm a Mom...a Wife, a Sister, a Daughter, a Friend, a picture taker-er, a writer, a (slow) runner, a veracious reader, a deep thinker, a bad cook-er, a LOUD laugher, a puppy dog cuddler, and a Life lover...

Who are you, Friend?

That doesn't quite sum it up for us though- does it?... It doesn't quite paint the entire picture... The nouns certainly don't describe the heart...our own personal mission statement... our insides... You don't have a personal mission statement? To that I say- oh yes you do...it's what you believe in...It's what you put out there...Maybe we just haven't defined it in concrete terms before...but we all have one...

What do you stand for?

(If you are on your computer you totally need to listen to this song in a new window while you read...)

We get bogged down by minutia...

Pay the cell bill...pick up waffles... clean the baseboards (that one has been on the To Do list for 2 years now), buy new face wash, check email...vacuum... So much time is spent doing the necessary and often ridiculous stuff people have to do because we are people...It's not the stuff dreams are made of though... It's not the stuff that scares us and makes us stretch...

Today we were off school for Martin Luther King Jr. Day... His words left a legacy of life behind that will live forever...No matter who you are- his words will speak to you...

Only in the darkness can you see the stars... {mlk}

He stood for things... He did great things... He inspires me because He changed the World...he didn't spend all day going to the grocery store and paying bills and going for a run and wondering why such and such did so and so...He probably didn't stand at the mirror and examine his gray hair and pores and feel bad... He did great things... scary things...things that also caused people to judge him and speak out against him... But he did great things anyway...

The way people treat you is a much bigger indication of who they are...not who you are...

What do I stand for? An answer I am learning is answered from the choices I make... I am an truth teller... Not everyone is comfortable with the truth...especially their own... I believe in the under dog...I love people that are flawed and authentic and honest... I believe no voice is too small...I believe in learning like a kid- forever...I believe in trying new things...I believe I was chosen to share Awareness for Autism... I believe in the power of choosing happy...I believe that we all have gifts that we must share...I bleieve so much good can come from terrible...I believe happiness grows from the inside and the more you give it away the more you make in spades... I believe when we stretch on our tippy toes that we actually grow...

Grey helps me grow by stretching outside of my comfort zone... I can tell I'm growing when it gets umcomfortable...

Faith is taking the first step even when you can't see the whole staircase...{mlk}

Today I helped Grey go outside his comfort zone by having a super-sized play group over to the house... Autism is a disorder primarily social in nature... Grey prefers playing alone versus playing with others...I see that as an opportunity to grow...

Today held Mommas and bitties and toys as far as the eye could see...

I can tell that Grey has come so far... although he doesn't initiate interactions with other kids- he was comfortable being around all of them and the fun and the chaos and the noise...

Grey wasn't the only one with Super Powers here today...

We played...

And ate... I made this amazing Buttermilk Blueberry breakfast cake... Ok, fine- my friend Jen made it- I'm a terrible cook...and she's an awesome one.

And we laughed... A ton...

Standing in the kitchen with these women made me realize how important it is to me to connect with other Moms and Friends... It's become even more apparent to me that I'd rather be surrounded by genuine and real authentic people I can call friends- or nothing at all... It's one of the things I realize I stand for... Authenticity...

And after everyone left-- we burned the remaining daylight at the park during our special therapy free day...

If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward... {mlk}
